Collectibles - Don't Get Taken By Crooked Dealers

by Daniel Wright

The proverbial story of going into the attic and discovering rare and valuable collectibles is quite true. Almost everybody has something inherited or long forgotten that is actually quite unusual. While they will probably not pay for retirement, such collectibles can make a nice meal or evening out.

That old chair which belonged to your aunt or the curio that you singled out at the nearby yard sale might turn out to be one of the most coveted antique collectibles. It is extremely possible that nearly everyone have more than a single collectible lying about someplace.

It is possible that you may have an old doll set or a teapot and possibly an old table that your neighbor presented to you. Also take a good look at the bottles that you may have in your bathroom.

It's hard to believe, but it's true, the most sought-after collectibles are actually just commonplace things. Tidying up your attic is a great place to start, because that is usually where we stow many of the items we don't use. You never know what you might find there.

Vintage collectibles come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. While there are numerous individuals who like to amass old cigar boxes, lots of others prefer grandfather clocks. No matter what the item in question, there are collectors who may be seeking precisely what you have in your basement or attic.

If you have a belief that there is something that you have that would surely be of interest to a collector and he will be willing to pay good money to buy it from you, how will you know whether the item is useless or a genuine collectible? For the task of recognizing an authentic collectible from a worthless object, certain rules can assist you in your decision.

The first piece of advice is to avoid antique fairs that claim to have a large collection of the same type of object. It is possible that the collection could be counterfeit. As reputable dealers usually clean items to improve their chance for sale, stay away from dirty pieces because the dealers might be trying to pass them off as older than they actually are. Surprisingly, collectors are very interested in old Coca-cola cans and Pepsi vending machines.

Soda-Pop-Collectibles.com features thousands of soda pop collectibles. Browse hundreds of Coca-Cola items, vintage Pepsi vending machines, and soda pop memorabilia of every size, shape, and type. Also, check out our soda pop videos--collections, classic ads, and more!
