Raggedy Ann Doll
Raggedy Ann dolls were first produced in 1918 to publicize
the children’s books about Raggedy Ann and her sidekick Raggedy Andy. Although
they have been made in almost every size, ‘standard’ Raggedy Ann dolls are
between fifteen and eighteen inches.
Raggedy Ann dolls are traditionally made
entirely of cloth with yarn hair. They usually have embroidered features with
eyes that may be either buttons or embroidered. Raggedy Ann often wears a
calico dress that is sometimes covered by a pinafore, while Raggedy Andy wears
some version of early twentieth century boys’ clothing, such as overalls or a
sailor suit and a hat. (Continued below...)

Raggedy Ann dolls may be as old as ninety years, and they generally are worth more as they age, especially if they are kept in good condition and still in their original packaging. They have been made by a variety of companies, but the original dolls made by Volland, Molly-es, Georgene, and Knickerbocker are more valuable than homemade or generic counterparts. Museum quality Raggedy Ann dolls with marks from one of the original manufacturers can cost thousands of dollars.
