Doll Parts

What is collector to do when they find the perfect doll for their collection, but minus a few key doll parts? There are a few ways to replace doll parts, even for antique dolls and dolls that have been discontinued.

The first place to start is with the manufacturer if they are still operational. If they do not have the part in question, they will likely know where to find doll parts from their older models of dolls.

If that avenue has been exhausted, collectors often replace certain doll parts with Darwi compound. This is a modeling compound that doesn’t change shape as it dries. This works best if the doll is missing large chips out of its trunk or otherwise has a ‘framework’ for the compound. It is not a good solution for doll parts such as limbs. If the doll is missing larger doll parts or limbs, a mold can be made out of Cernit or another mold compound. The limb can be made from thus molded Darwi compound and painted to make the doll’s other body parts. This will create an imperfect but acceptable doll part until a better replacement is found.
