Dam doll
Dam dolls, the original Troll dolls, were originally
conceived of by Danish woodworker Thomas Dam. After carving the first Troll out
of wood, he began making them out of rubber. For several years, these dolls
were made out of high quality soft rubber with glass eyes and lambs’ wool hair.
During the early sixties they were second only to Barbie dolls in sales before
being passed to a different manufacturer and losing their coveted status.
The original Dam dolls are still wildly popular
with doll collectors. If you aren’t an expert, it’s still easy to tell if a
Troll doll is one of the originals: it will have a Dam imprint on the sole of
its foot or on its back. (continued below...)
Trolls come in a
variety of sizes with different rainbow colored hues of hair. Their variety and
unique look make them a fun addition to any doll collection. Although they have
been known to cost hundreds of dollars, authentic Dam dolls can be found for as
little as twenty dollars.
